RUNNERS' CLUB OF GREATER CINCINNATI BOARD MEETING MINUTES
September 14, 2006
(at Bob Roncker's Running Spot)

Members Present: Tom Glasscock, Todd Hofacre, Jeff Hummel, Ed Hunter, Mike Moyer. Guest: Lonnie Smith

Kicks for Kids Foundation Scholarships: Mike noted that the Kicks for Kids Foundation, the beneficiary of the River Run 5K (May 27, 2006, in Newport, KY) has agreed to give two $500 scholarships out of the race receipts to deserving a male and a deserving female who graduated from high school in 2006. The Foundation had not previously determined how the students would be selected or how the funds would be distributed. Ed will provide Mike with contact information for the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation, which selected recipients and administered funds for scholarships the RCGC offered during the years 1998-2002 to deserving male and female students who had participated on their cross-country teams.

Newsletter: The Board agreed that we should try to send out at least four issues per year, one in November (to cover the Thanksgiving Day Race and Holiday Lights Run), February (to cover the Valentines Race, membership renewal, bag stuffing, and the Heart Mini-marathon), April (to cover the Memorial Day Race), and July (to cover the summer picnic). Jeff agreed to handle printing. An editor is needed to compile the newsletter. Mike will continue to issue his e-newsletter periodically.

Next Club Happy Hour: Thursday, November 2, 2006, 6:30 p.m., meeting at the Beer Cellar in Newport, KY (near Newport-on-the-Levee).

Thanksgiving Day 10K Race (Thursday, November 23, 2006, starting and ending near Paul Brown Stadium, 9 a.m.) Mike will contact Julie Isphording to determine how much she will pay the Club for helping with post-race clean-up. Last year the Club was paid $400 for clean-up work.

Holiday Lights Run: (Tuesday, December 5, 2006, 6:30 p.m., starting and ending at the Williams YMCA) Tom has confirmed the use of the Williams YMCA and has reserved the upstairs room of O'Bryons in O'Bryonville for refreshments afterward. Based on previous events, we would expect about 50 people.

Holiday Party: (Saturday, January 6, 2007 [tentative date], 7 - 11 p.m.) The Board agreed that the Fort Thomas Community Center is too large and too expensive for the number of people who have attended the Holiday Parties in recent years. Mike will call the Hamilton County Park District to see if they have facilities that would accommodate 60 - 100 people. Lonnie Smith agreed to stop by Sharon Woods to check the availability of the lodge there. Linda Jeanmougin's condo party room is another possible location. Mike will ask Linda what the rental fee there would be. Jeff agreed to set up a music system for the party, as he did last year.

Valentines Run: (2 miles, February 11, 2007, Northern Kentucky University, 12 noon) Gloves will be considered for awards. Other details are to be determined.

Heart Mini-Marathon 30 (5K and 15K, Sunday, March 25, 2007, downtown Cincinnati) Mike will call the American Heart Association to confirm the date and the Westin to reserve a hospitality suite.

Water Stop for Flying Pig Marathon: (May 6, 2007) The Club needs to decide soon whether or not we want to manage a water stop at this year's race (as we did in 2004 and 2005) and if so, how we will recruit volunteers.

Next Board Meeting: Thursday, October 12, 7:00 p.m., at Bob Roncker's Running Spot.

Respectfully submitted,
Ed Hunter, Secretary
